Donors Choose

About Donors Choose

The teachers at Curtis Creek School go out of their way every day to provide everything they can for your children, but they can't do it all. Many teachers at our school regularly post projects on Donors Choose. One way you can help is to check the site to see if your child's teacher has a project posted that you could help fund.

Donorschoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. It began in New York in 2000, and went nation-wide in 2007. Public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom projects requests on the site, and you can give any amount to the project that most inspires you. When a project reaches its funding goal, the materials are shipped to the school.

Curtis Creek School has just reached a huge milestone. This past week we passed the $200,000 mark for donations received for our school through Donors Choose. This is more than likely one of the largest totals in the nation. We know of at least one school on the East Coast that was recently recognized by DonorsChoose.org for reaching this mark.

DonorsChoose.org prides itself on focusing on student needs and materials that teachers feel are important to reach those goals. DC also works diligently to find corporations and individuals who will help teachers reach those goals. They often provide 50% funding for projects and you will see those names as you peruse our school's link for DC. The most recent ones earned by our teachers were from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Locally we have had other foundations and individuals who have also helped fund our projects. Community members, our District, CCPA, and our CCSD families have all supported the wonderful projects that have been brought to our students.

When you click on the link for our school at the right, you will see statistics for each of the 20 teachers who have participated in DC over the past several years. You can see how many projects have been written, how many donors have been attracted, and you can see specifically what the projects have done for all of our students.

Thank you for continuing to support the unique learning opportunities we strive to bring to your children!
